The other week my internet connection failed and yesterday (as most of you will know) my Blackberry had a major wobble because of the European server crash!
I am in the camp of when things work they are fantastic, I love having access to my world on the go, emails, Twitter (I’m @ewa_helen by the way!) and Facebook. It’s quick, easy and great for business and keeping up with friends.
I also love the internet, a source of ideas, information and well, shopping!! Only this week I have searched for loads of different and diverse things such as:
1. Christmas craft ideas (Hobbycraft) – I am planning something in late November to help a friend raise funds for Breast Cancer Care (www.missionmachupicchu.co.uk)
2. The latest statistics for the Council of Mortgage Lenders - to keep up to date for work
3. Marks & Spencers - Christmas gift ideas, well I do love shopping!
4. The papers – websites of the broadsheets, again for work
5. Fireman Sam - Entertainment ideas and colouring in sheets for my little boy,
6. Rightmove - for business (and a nose!)
You get the idea that the internet provides me with all manner of tools to help my work and home life run that little bit more smoothly!
When this source then breaks down I literally have little if no idea of what is wrong and my idea of fixing is turning on and off and pressing random buttons!
I have a lovely man called Chris (poor Chris!) who listens to my descriptions f the thingy isn’t working and the whatsit won’t close/open/move etc!
I think an analogy of a surveyor being a fix for all housing ailments is a little too far fetched!
But think about your home and how it’s just being there, offering permanent protection and privacy from the world around us.
Paul often compares buildings to people and can often be heard saying if we were 110 years old we would have a few aches and pains as well!
Although we view the buildings around us as one of the things that will never fail us, looked upon as steadfast, strong and often imposing.
Buildings can have hidden defects, a bit like computers, you can’t see it but know that it can stop the building from working properly.
This is why we always recommend (well we would being Surveyors!) that a survey should be carried out to find any gremlins in the works!
Paul loves surveying and is happy to help anyone with property related questions or queries!
And me, all is right in my world as I have a fully functioning computer and Blackberry, for now anyway…
